Archbishop denies warnings in Ortiz-Dietz case in Texas
Archbishop Patrick Flores of San Antonio says no warning about priest Xavier Ortiz-Dietz sexual problems was given until families complained in 1992. Court records and reports show earlier concerns in 1974 and a 1993 no contest plea by Ortiz-Dietz, now serving a 20 year term. The archdiocese agreed to a 4 million dollar settlement in a suit by seven boys’ families.

U S and Mexico join effort to cut border deaths
Washington and Mexico announce a three pronged public safety initiative to reduce deaths and injuries along their 2000 mile shared border. The plan includes warning migrants of dangers, improving search and rescue, and notifying relatives in case of deaths. Human rights groups welcomed the move but doubt one program will deter economic migrants.
