Mothers sentenced in death fire tragedy at El Campo home
Two mothers Jacqueline Williams and Marshal Taylor Owens were sentenced to one year in the Wharton County Jail after pleading guilty to causing injury to a child. The fire occurred when the women left seven unattended children ages 2 months to 8 years at Williams' ramshackle El Campo home while they were at a Bay City bar. Five of Williams' six children and two of Owens' four children died in the blaze.

Suspect Arrested in Houston Slaying Case

A 20 year old pregnant Odessa woman says she was awakened about 1 15 am Sunday by a man who forced intercourse while her two children watched. She described the assailant as a Hispanic male about 20, 5 5, slender, with wavy light brown hair and a scar on his right cheek. He entered through a living room window and fled in a vehicle behind the house.
