West Texas quakes near Snyder shake nerves more than structures
An earthquake with epicenter about 20 miles north of Snyder rattled West Texas communities from San Angelo to Andrews at 6:47 am. Estimates ranged from 3.0 to 5.0 on the Richter scale. No injuries or major damage were reported, though residents and police received numerous calls. Experts from the University of Texas and Texas Tech noted it was the region’s largest quake in memory and will study possible causes, including oil activity, while aftershocks, if any, may be too small to detect.
