State Farm faces Texas refunds over homeowner overcharges
In a dispute spanning since 2003, State Farm may owe Texas policyholders between 0 and about 1 billion dollars for allegedly excessive homeowner insurance charges. The Office of Public Insurance Counsel cites 785 million plus interest, while the Texas Department of Insurance estimates about 250 million plus near 100 million in interest. State Farm disputes liability and says no refunds are due. The insurance commissioner Mike Geeslin will rule, a decision with political implications for Gov. Rick Perry and Senate candidate Kay Bailey Hutchison.
