Escaped killers hid in plain sight under guard eyes
New York authorities continued the ninth day of the Clinton Correctional escape search for Richard Matt and David Sweat near Dannemora as investigators say contractors tools aided the break. Joyce Mitchell, the prison tailor shop instructor, faced charges for allegedly helping them but backed out. Cuomo warned the convicts could be in Mexico, while locals remained on alert and supportive, as officers combed woods and swamps near the Canadian border. Matt, 48, and Sweat, 35, faced life sentences for past crimes including torture and murder.
