Local lawyers call for tighter whistleblower statute in Texas
Odessa attorney Denis Dennis and Ector County Attorney Tracey Bright urge clearer language in Chapter 554.002 of the Texas Government Code to curb frivolous whistleblower suits. They note 95 state cases since 1990, with Odessa and Ector County Hospital District each facing pending actions, while no cases target Ector ISD. Dennis and Bright warn that broad wording allows claims when employees perceive violations and that 90 day filing and testing honesty affect outcomes.
