Gamma ray bursts puzzle astronomers after four years of study
Pittsburgh AP reports gamma ray bursts remain unexplained after four years of Compton Observatory observations. About 1,200 bursts recorded since 1991 vary in duration from fractions of a second to ten minutes and show no repetition from same location. The sources remain unknown, with theories placing them in the Milky Way halo or at the edge of the observable universe.
