Guilty verdict on Woodham for Pearl High shooting

Luke Woodham is found guilty on two counts of murder and multiple assault charges for the Pearl High School rampage that claimed two students including his former girlfriend Christina Menefee. He receives two life terms plus additional years, to run consecutively, after earlier killings of his mother.

U.S. settles WWII internees reparations case

The United States will provide 5000 in reparations to Latin Americans of Japanese ancestry interned during World War II. The settlement, announced by Attorney General Janet Reno, covers survivors and heirs alive on August 10 1988. About 600 claims have been received with roughly 700 more believed eligible.
