West Odessa subdivision road case seeks county maintenance
Residents of a West Odessa subdivision appealed to Ector County to accept and maintain seven private roads developed by Charles J. Rice. Precinct 1 Commissioner David Childers urged county maintenance, but commissioners opted to survey the subdivision. Berton Rose said the roads are in terrible condition and unaffordable for residents to fix, with buses and law enforcement limited by private road status.

Social Security deductions eyed for county workers costs
Hermanson argues higher payroll taxes under a 6.7 percent employee share could lower take home pay and push some workers into higher tax brackets while auditors discuss timing for Social Security deductions. Using Ector County's $8.79 million payroll, officials estimate potential extra costs or savings depending on whether raises match Social Security rates and whether deductions begin by Jan. 1 1984 under a new Congress amendment. County budget raises and cost of living considerations complicate whether to fund raises or continue paying Social Security taxes.
