Tornadoes and drenching rains sweep West Texas causing widespread damage. The Associated Press reports powerful storms bring flooding and structural harm across towns, with reports of downed trees and localized power outages.
A thundershower hit Odessa Thursday afternoon delivering up to .35 inch in downtown and up to 3 inches in northeast areas with golfball sized hail. Cloudy skies lingered with a 20 percent chance of more storms. Widespread rain and isolated tornadoes were reported in nearby towns, including Oak Creek Lake and Lake Brownwood, with damage to windows and roofs but no injuries.
Grand Rapids report notes Washtenaw County deputies pursue possible links to a string of six slayings of young women in Ann Arbor, including a 33 year old secretary found slain south of Grand Rapids. Subic Bay Philippines AP The Melbourne commander Capt J P Stevenson testified the Evans turned into the Melbourne after the carrier changed course. He said if Evans had held steady course the ships might have only brushed. The Evans was cut in two with 74 crewmen lost. Stevenson described observing the Evans on collision course before dawn June 3 and signaling, turning left to port, and ordering 300 degrees rudder as alarms sounded.
SPACE CENTER Houston reports a green light for the Apollo 11 mission with Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. and Michael Collins aboard the lunar lander. The July 16 blast off is scheduled with television crew plans under review as the mission proceeds toward the first Moon landing.

Dan Bullock of Brooklyn enlisted at 14 and arrived in Vietnam May 18. He died aged 15 defending An Hoa base near Da Nang during a North Vietnamese mortar and rocket attack. Bullock was among six Marines killed. three wounded. His father works in a valve factory. his mother had died four years earlier.
