Nixon Halleck split over school aid push
Vice President Richard M Nixon and House Republican Leader Charles A Halleck appear to clash over the school aid bill. Nixon seeks a compromise to move the issue from the campaign while Halleck aims to defeat the measure. The House approved a four-year 1.3 billion program, the Senate a two-year 1.8 billion plan including teachers' salaries and construction grants. Eisenhower proposed a 30-year 2.2 billion program.
