Water rates may rise for Odessa area demand surge
The Colorado River Municipal Water District may raise rates to member cities this year as Lake Ivie water use climbs. Drought has reduced Lake Thomas and Lake Spence, forcing more pumping and higher electricity costs. District Director John Grant said Odessa sits highest in the system and two motors run, with no relief until drought ends. A 7 to 9 cent per gallon increase could affect the 1996 97 budget, with City Manager Jerry McGuire noting budget hearings soon. Previous year avoided rate hikes for Odessa Big Spring and Snyder.
