Last Indians Taken Off Alcatraz Isle
SAN FRANCISCO AP reports U S marshals removed 15 Indians Friday from Alcatraz Island, the final group of a band that had occupied the former prison since November 20, 1969. Six men, four women, and five children were taken by Coast Guard boats with no injuries reported. The government says the group illegally inhabited the island, disrupted lighthouse repairs, and endangered tourist boats, while declined access for investigations. No charges will be filed. The occupancy is described as intolerable and a prior marshal was obstructed during a probe.
