A crash on U S 281 in Pleasanton involved a school bus and two other vehicles injuring one person from the van. All occupants escaped. the van passenger was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital. The exact cause will be determined today as the bus carried 30 students home from school.
Voters in Gardendale, an unincorporated area of Ector County, faced a special election on incorporation. Early votes totaled 333 with 11 mail ballots, out of 1420 registered voters. Election day ran 7 am to 7 pm at the Gardendale Community Building amid debate between incorporation advocates and opponents over taxes and oil-well protections.
About 4 500 people and seven schools lost power after separate accidents in Midland and Odessa. Downed wires and a pole hit cut electricity to areas near Interstate 20 and several schools including Carver Early Education Center Blackshear Milam and Hays elementaries. Power was restored by noon in both cities with lingering outages resolved by mid morning. West Odessa residents also briefly lost power due to a feeder malfunction that was reset.
The Ector County Hospital District board approved two year leases with West Texas Oncology for inpatient services including space equipment and staffing with a monthly flat fee totaling 19723.15 for 15 hours monthly and an annual first year cost of 236677.88. The move aligns with Stark regulations shifting from per procedure to monthly payments. Some board members voiced concern but the vote passed unanimously except for absent members.
