NASA weighs heaters to replace foam on shuttle tank
NASA official Michael Greenfield said the redesign would replace insulating foam on the external tank bipod area with small heaters to prevent ice, aiming to cut debris risks after the Columbia disaster. He noted rapid briefing to the Advisory Council and said final approval is expected soon.
