Reno urges states to implement gun background checks
Attorney General Janet Reno urged states to run their own criminal background checks for gun buyers once the Brady Act national instant checks take effect on Nov 30. States may perform checks or rely on the FBI, with costs to dealers possibly passed to customers. The FBI will charge $13 to $16 per check for states that do not conduct their own, and the system will handle up to 15,000 requests per hour linking FBI to over 60,000 dealers.
