Civilians Abroad Not To Face Military Trial
The Supreme Court on a June 11 decision held that civilians abroad are not subject to military tribunals. Justice Black wrote that government power rests with courts to try civilians for offenses against the United States. The ruling frees Dorothy Krueger Smith and Clarice B. Covert, both serving life terms after convictions for murder, from military jurisdiction.
