County Judge Jerry Caddel scheduled monthly reports on the 4.5 million Schlemeyer Field project until construction starts. Public Works Director Don Smith and Cooper Co. said designs are 98 percent complete. Odessa Sheriff’s Posse clubhouse to be moved for Schlemeyer runway

The historic Posse clubhouse, a 50 year-old Odessa landmark with a dance floor and mural, will be moved as Texas DOT Aviation Division and county plan a Schlemeyer Field runway expansion. Also slated for removal are 32 horse stalls and a rodeo arena while Family Dollar builds a distribution center nearby. TxDOT says runways 5,000 and 5,700 feet are insufficient for jets over 30,000 pounds. County officials warned of a quick property settlement and lack of planning, leaving locals in the dark about time frames.
