Survival School at Fairchild Teaches Realism for Pilot Survival
At Fairchild Air Force Base survival course instructors drill airmen in foraging, ongoing movement, and evasion in hostile terrain. The program trains 3,000 to 5,000 yearly, with lessons drawn from Capt. Scott O Grady who survived six days after a Bosnia shootdown by eating insects and grass, moving at night, and using a locator beacon before rescue.

Judge OKs CIA bias settlement in discrimination suit
A federal judge approved a 990000 settlement of a sex discrimination class action against the CIA, despite objections from nine of ten plaintiffs. About 400 women share the payout, with retroactive promotions for 25 and career-enhancing assignments for 15, plus attorney fees and monitoring. The CIA will report promotion rates for three years and hire an expert to improve promotion standards, while individual harassment claims remain possible through separate lawsuits.
