Annual picnic auction to aid area shelter in Midland
The Permian Basin Center for Battered Women and Their Children plans its second annual picnic and silent auction at Midland Center on June 27 to raise about 50000 dollars for a new facility costing around 200000. Items include mink coat and jewelry donated by local merchants. The shelter currently houses 32 to 41 people and offers counseling, evaluations, and services for children. Funding comes from state agencies, United Way, and private donations.
