Odessa refunds shrink after four-year tax misallocation
Odessa’s retail sales tax rebate for this month dropped to 348,983 dollars after the state comptroller corrected an error that had credited four years of payments to Odessa instead of Midland. The adjustment lowered Odessa’s rebate from an estimated 560,000 to 348,983, while Midland’s rebate increased by 151,962 to 714,439. Local officials note the misallocation affected year-to-date totals, with Odessa up 4.81 percent and Midland up 20.7 percent from last year. The state says the figures reflect taxpayer-reported sales within city limits and increases reflect reallocations.
