Hinson Given a Year Extension to Stay on Ranch
Mary Hinson, 68, of Pine Springs, has won a one year reprieve from the Park Service to remain at her home and Pine Springs Cafe near Guadalupe Mountains National Park in West Texas. Officials had planned to raze the structures as eyesores on government property, but a June 30 deadline was granted after pressure from Secretary Watt and President Reagan. Hinson and her attorney Duane Jarrud had proposed trading part of her 3700 acre Guadalupe Peak holdings to remain on the site, a bid the Park Service declined.

Killer still free in priest murder case
The killer of Denver City Catholic priest Patrick Ryan remains free, and convicting James Harry Reyes would risk an innocent man. Reyes’s defense argued the statements to police were false confessions tied to guilt over homosexual contact with the priest. The prosecution contended Reyes confessed, became overwhelmed by guilt, and killed Ryan in a Land and Sage Motel room on December 21, 1981.
