Wickett school debate centers on keeping or closing campus
Residents and staff argue Wickett's small classes provide better education than Gensler. They cite higher test scores, teacher contact, and handling of problem students. Critics say money drives board decisions, noting a shop class cut while Gensler funds itself. The district weighs keeping Wickett open versus consolidation.

Arson fuels church rebuilding and race harmony in Greenville
In Greenville Texas arson destroyed the New Light House of Prayer and the Church of the Living God in June 1996. The rebuilt New Light House opened in May 1997 in a larger buff brick building with a day care center, financed by about 500000 in cash and similar value in donated goods and services. Community leaders say the tragedy helped unite black and white residents while major donors from Raytheon AT&T and Second Baptist Church of Houston contributed to the effort.
