King County prosecutors charged 51 year old Alan Paul Barlow with two counts of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes after he sent sexually motivated e mail messages. He was arrested by New York police when he traveled to meet a 14 year old girl and had previously sent explicit fantasies to minors in Montana and New Jersey. Barlow was sentenced last month to 75 months in prison on statutory rape and possessing explicit photographs. Nationally, lawmakers consider a federal Decency Act addressing indecent material sent electronically.
Pauline Zile, 24, received life in prison without parole for murder and child abuse in the death of her daughter Christina Holt. She did not kill Christina but did not stop her stepfather from beating her Sept 16. The case mirrored later events of Susan Smith's widely reported abduction tale.
In Arlington three people were found shot to death in a rooming house. David Kaplan 34 editor in charge of a new online service summarizing bills for Congressional Quarterly was among the dead. Florence Marie Marks 54 an Arlington County employee and William Miller 52 also killed. Police searched for a car.
