Johnson pushes broadened gun control measure in Congress
President Johnson, in response to the Kennedy assassination, calls for a tougher gun control law that bans mail-order sales of rifles and shotguns as well as pistols. He notes the House passed only the pistols ban and signals he may veto or seek broader action, tying the issue to a sweeping crime control bill with police powers and confession reforms.

Legislator cites complaints about LCB agents conduct
San Antonio legislator Rep. Jake Johnson told a House State Affairs Committee he has received complaints about Liquor Control Board agents since the agency's shake-up. He sought reports from a subcommittee, while LCB officials said no known San Antonio complaints exist. Johnson alleged physical abuse and bar removal actions, and noted potential racial discrimination concerns in enforcement. The hearing covered liquor reform and campus sale provisions, with debate over university policy and the role of small liquor bottles in a liquor by the drink plan.
