FDA approves large AIDS vaccine trial in U S cities
The FDA grants VaxGen permission to run the Phase III AIDSvax trial, testing 5,000 U S volunteers at high risk and 2,500 Thai participants. Researchers caution efficacy remains uncertain though the study aims to settle debates on gp120 vaccine approaches. Recruitment starts next month in Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and St. Louis.
