AUSTIN AP Legislators closed the 78th regular session Monday with hugs and handshakes after budget battles and floor debate. The House and Senate met mainly for corrections and ceremonial resolutions while dressing casually and posing for photos. Lt Gov Dewhurst and House Speaker Craddick declared the session a success, noting no additional tax burden on Texas families.

Early voting totals rise in three counties and districtwide

At the Friday 7 p.m. deadline Ector County cast 3427 ballots, Midland 7178, and Lubbock 13041, up from prior tallies. Districtwide votes reached 28651, a district gain of 4270, though several counties showed declines while Andrews Cochran Hockley Howard Lamb Terry Ward counties posted gains.
