Devils Lake flood swallows farms near Devils Lake town
Devils Lake has risen to its highest level this century from three years of heavy precipitation. Minnewaukan, once eight miles from the shore, now sits on lakefront land as farms and barley and wheat fields flood. The lake, with no outlet, may reach 1,438.4 feet, threatening Devils Lake city and cropland. costs exceed $23 million in damages. Water management proposals include an inlet from the Missouri River and an outlet to the Sheyenne River, but the Army Corps finds the plan too costly.
