Dow Chemical to appeal Texas breast implant ruling

Dow Chemical Co plans to appeal a Texas appeals court decision that will force its appearance in court this summer for breast implant lawsuits. The 14th Court of Appeals in Houston rejected Dow’s bid to stay out of suits linked to Dow Corning. Plaintiffs’ lawyers say Dow benefited from sales from 1964 to 1992 and used facilities in early silicone tests, while Dow attorneys express confidence in eventual success.

Bush signs law curbing early prisoner release in Texas

Gov. Bush says the new Texas law keeps violent offenders from automatic early release and empowers the State Board of Pardons and Paroles to veto releases under the mandatory supervision program. The measure ends automatic release based on good conduct time and time served. It also excludes inmates with prior violent convictions from the program.
