Nimitz crew paid less than minimum wage says Pentagon
A Pentagon official says 14 sailors and airmen killed in the Nimitz crash earned as little as 1.10 dollars hourly, about a third of the civilian minimum wage. Maj. Gen. R. Dean Tice urged a 14.3 percent pay raise funded at 4.5 billion dollars, noting higher earners averaged only 3.19 per hour and highlighting long hours in service. He argued targeted raises better retain skilled personnel while warning against overdoing special bonuses.
