Austin police pull nearly 400 Ford Explorers over exhaust concerns
The Austin Police Department removed almost 400 Police Interceptor Ford Explorers from its patrol fleet amid exhaust fume worries linked to 2011 to 2017 models. NHTSA has logged 2,700 plus complaints nationwide, with dozens of Austin officers reporting health issues and elevated carbon monoxide levels. The city will swap in 200 Ford Taurus and Crown Victoria cars, operating in pairs to maintain patrols while monitoring response times.
