Crane County hears dam plan to restock Pecos River watershed
Don Howell urged Crane County commissioners to back a regional dam project across Pecos River basins involving Pecos Ward and Winkler counties. He argues one dam could raise river levels for 40 miles to recharge the Monument Draw and Alluvial Aquifers, despite skepticism from Tiny Earp. Fatal I-10 crash near Sierra Blanca leaves five dead
Five people were killed and three injured in a Monday four-vehicle chain reaction crash near the Sierra Blanca checkpoint on Interstate 10. Charges are pending for 51 year old Stan Kennedy of Shreveport Louisiana. Kennedy's car struck a Nissan Altima triggering the pileup. The victims from Mountain View Arkansas Pecos Texas included Vera Branscom 58 and Jaben Kasinger infant plus Cecilia and Jacob Carrasco ages 28 and 7. Two other Carrascos were injured. Eastbound I 10 was closed about five hours. All injured remained in stable condition at R E Thomason Hospital in El Paso.

ECISD Eyes Bond Sale With State Aid To Cut Tax Hike
ECISD plans to sell remaining 35.62 million in bonds by August 31 with state aid over 17.5 million and 24.5 million already pledged to cover debts. If approved, tax rate could drop from about 22 to 16 cents per 100 AV, reducing debt service on a 50 000 home from 110 to 80 dollars annually. Trustees weigh use of funds for bonds only, with surplus for like projects, and seek timely sale to maximize state support.

NM nurse killed in I 10 rollover near Sonora
Grants New Mexico nurse Alice Soto, 46, was killed in a one vehicle rollover on I 10 about 12 miles east of Sonora Tuesday morning. Soto was pronounced dead at 11 05 a m at Hudspeth Memorial Hospital. She overcorrected after drifting to the roadside while driving eastbound around 9 15 a m. She was wearing a seat belt per the DPS report.
