One day subway strike disrupts London travel
London faced a 24 hour subway strike that halted most underground service and sent commuters to buses, taxis, bikes, or walking. Tourists like Melissa Bannister and Sally Ebeling learned of the walkout at Heathrow, delaying plans to visit the Wallace Collection as crowds filled streets and bus routes endured severe crowding and delays. The RMT led by Bob Crow pressed for safety over Prime Minister Tony Blair's partial privatization plan, while Mayor Ken Livingstone voiced support and urged patience as trains were repositioned overnight.
