Teen drug and alcohol use falls among students
The Pride Survey reports the lowest illicit drug use among sixth to twelfth graders in years, with 22.3 percent. Alcohol use at 65 percent and cigarette use at 36 percent mark record lows, suggesting adults influence and youth engagement in extracurricular and religious activities. Increased parental guidance after 9/11 may also shape reduced substance use.
