Spurgin Brown Runoff Set For August Election Date
After a lengthy sequence of primary runoff recount and a civil suit, the 88th Judicial District will vote August 12 for the Democratic district attorney nominee. Voters in the 83rd Judicial District will have no Republican opposition. Visiting Judge V Murray Jordan set the date after voiding the April 11 runoff amid fraud claims in a suit by Frank Brown. Brown and Steve Spurgin, his runoff opponent, expect a final resolution. Spurgin welcomed the Saturday date, saying it helps working voters, while Brown pressed for continued emphasis on qualifications and prosecutorial experience. Both campaigns say they will run a focused, issue driven race with ongoing defenses amid aggressive radio ads from Spurgin.
