California Gov Brown orders medfly aerial spraying over Palo Alto

Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr ordered six aerial malathion sprayings to combat a threatening Mediterranean fruit fly infestation. Brown cited a federal ultimatum to act or face crop quarantines, while opponents worry about chemical exposure. A Los Gatos injunction hearing is set for Monday as the state pursues spraying, which Brown defends as less deadly than fumigation.
