Cubs sweep Dodgers to stay atop Texas League West
Midland third baseman Fritz Connolly fueled the scoring in both ends of a double header as the Cubs beat San Antonio 4-2 and 2-1 to hold first in the Western Division. Connolly homered twice, scored the winning run, and Carmello Martinez delivered the go ahead RBI. The Dodgers rallied in the third but a misplayed ball kept Midland in front. El Paso erupted for six in the first en route to a 7-5 win over Amarillo, with Eddie Irvine extending his hitting streak to 11 games. In the Eastern Division, Shreveport defeated Jackson 4-3 on John Rabb’s fourth inning homer, while Arkansas pulled away from Tulsa 4-2 behind Kerry Burchett’s eight strikeouts.
