Economic growth and inflation projections amid tax cut effects
The May to December jobless rate trend is discussed with a 7.2 percent forecast risking the worst inflation since 1974 when prices rose 12.2 percent. Schultze notes growth near 4 percent is needed to improve jobs while inflation stays higher than expected. The Budget Office says California’s Prop 13 tax rollback could reduce national living costs by 1979 to 1980, lowering the CPI by about 0.2 to 0.4 points, with May’s CPI at 193.3 and a $19.33 goods basket.
