Vote buying claims surface after Mexican election
Thousands flocked to stores in Mexico City to redeem prepaid gift cards tied to the PRI winning candidate Enrique Pena Nieto. Shoppers complained of reduced card value and many said cards urged support for the PRI. Some described cards worth 500 pesos but only 100 pesos were usable at checkout. The PRI denied distributing such cards and electoral authorities were alerted. Maria Salazar and family recounted the experience outside a Soriana store amid broader accusations.
