Bill floods the South as storm leaves thousands without power
Tropical Storm Bill struck the southern United States with 60 mph winds and record rainfall, sweeping into Louisiana and Alabama. One fishing boat crewman remained missing in the Gulf, while about 73,000 power customers faced outages in southeastern Louisiana. A levee broke in Montegut flooding a quarter of the town, and Matt Landrieu rode out the storm in Grand Isle as officials warned of continued heavy rain and rising waters.
