Prisoners demand Des Moines newspaper access at home rates
Polk County Jail inmates lament high rates for home delivery of the Des Moines Register and Tribune. Policy bills prisoners the same daily price as vending machine purchases, about $1.00 per day for the morn or the Tritur plus 85 cents for Sunday. Total weekly and three-paper rates amount to roughly $3.85. One inmate even taps out a jailhouse plea to the newspaper.
