Desertion charge dismissed in Garwood case at Camp Lejeune
Marine Pfc. Robert Garwood won a court ordered acquittal on desertion in Vietnam but charges of collaboration with the enemy were left to a jury. Judge Col. R E Switzer dismissed several related counts, noting insufficient evidence after 11 weeks of testimony. A five officer jury will hear closing arguments and deliberate on the remaining charges, including alleged maltreatment of a fellow soldier.
