Purge call as protests swell in Poland after strikes
Politburo member Mieczyslaw Moczar urged a broad purge of officials linked to Edward Gierek's regime while students and farmers warned protests would escalate. In Lodz, over 2,000 students staged sit ins at the university with polytechnic and film schools set to join, and a delegation travelled to Warsaw to meet student leaders and officials.
