Man reshapes WWII ship fate from Eagle tragedy tale
Paul Lawton, a military historian, uncovers evidence that the USS Eagle's 1945 sinking was caused by a German U-boat attack rather than a boiler explosion. He pursues Navy records, reaches archivist Bernard Cavalcante, and follows a long drive to reopen the inquiry as families of Eagle crew gather for a final tribute aboard a Quincy naval museum ship.
