Skakel’s juvenile fate looms in Greenwich murder case
The 39-year-old nephew of EF surrenders to police and faces a juvenile court path in a 1975 Connecticut slaying case. Prosecutors must seek transfer to adult court, but legal experts warn the timing and authority are murky, risking a potential no-punishment outcome if kept in juvenile jurisdiction.
Murder in Greenwich Years Strongly Considered for Rehabilitation Not Punishment
Hillary Bargar a Bridgeport juvenile prosecutor says Skakel may stay in juvenile court for a year or more if the transfer is fought. Skakel's attorney Michael Sherman has not decided on a fight to keep the case in juvenile court. Many lawyers doubt a judge will allow continued juvenile status given the case's high profile and Skakel's 39 age. The Moxley case remained unsolved for over 24 years. Skakel, son of Rushton Kennedy’s brother in law, was charged after an 18 month probe by a judge acting as a one man grand jury finding grounds for arrest. Martha Moxley was killed during a visit to the Skakel home. her body was found next day on the family estate beaten with a 6 iron later tied to the Skakel set.
