Kmart to exit Permian Basin with 326 store closures
Kmart will close 326 underperforming stores including its East 42nd Street Odessa location and a Corsicana distribution center as part of a bankruptcy reorganization. The move ends Kmart's 29 year presence in Odessa and aims to lift the retailer toward a planned emergence by April 30 with about 1,500 stores 168,000 employees remaining. Local reactions mix reluctance and hope for clearance sales to follow.
