Scientists clone rhesus monkeys with embryo splitting
Researchers at Oregon Health Sciences University report producing genetically identical rhesus monkey embryos by splitting an eight cell stage into four parts then implanting them into four mothers. One living monkey named Tetra exists with four more pregnancies underway. if successful, identical infants could aid stem cell therapies and organ growth studies in humans. The approach faces ethical objections from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

Monkeys Split Embryo Yields One Identical Twin
Scientists divided an early rhesus monkey embryo to create four genetically identical beings. One monkey was born after both females conceived, but miscarriages occurred before Female B gave birth to a daughter named Tetra. The note mentions ethics of human embryonic stem cell research due to embryo death.
