Education funding in Texas may face cuts amid deficit
Education officials in the area worry as the Texas legislative session opens amid a projected state budget shortfall of up to 12 billion dollars. ECISD leaders expect flat funding around 80 million while last year’s state support neared 89 million, and the district has kept a balanced 176 million budget with a 1.50 tax rate cap. The boost in testing and potential student retention costs adds to concerns over future education funding and state aid.
