Nuclear plant behind schedule 7 percent late
Houston Light & Power officials report delays at the South Texas nuclear plant with total construction 45 percent complete. A 1979 schedule aimed for 52 percent. Delays blamed on a work stoppage after Nuclear Regulatory Commission investigations into inspector harassment and questionable concrete and welding practices. A utilities consortium including HL&P Austin San Antonio and Central Power and Light Corpus Christi builds the plant 75 miles southwest of Houston in Matagorda County.
