Arctic Cold Keeps Cities in Grip Across States
Arctic air sent temperatures plummeting from New York to Florida as the Deep Freeze fueled boiler failures, gas lines freezing, and stranded motorists. In Old Forge, New York, 42 below zero was reported, while Boston and Pittsburgh registered single digits. One death was blamed on the cold in Philadelphia as a hospital boiler outage forced evacuations in Cleveland.
